break & bloom

create for the sake of creating

about

break & bloom was created in the summer of 2023 by Vania Liu & Audrey Yeung, 2 girls in the Bay Area. We started this project with the mission to provide creatives with a platform to express themselves through their art. Each of our issues' themes ask artists to examine how their identities and experiences show up in their work. We embrace creativity that is free from expectations that limit authenticity.

The name break & bloom takes inspiration from the Chinese character, , which can mean to break or to bloom. This zine encourages creatives to do both: to break into a space of their own, and to bloom unapologetically.
